Are Your Children Safe from Gun Violence?

LOCK IT UP

Lock it Up

Over 3/4 of children killed by a firearm are killed in their home or the home of a friend or relative. If you own a firearm the safest way to protect your family is to store your weapon in an approved locked storage box or by attaching a chamber lock.

Why Should You Lock Up Your Firearm?

* Children are curious. Studies have shown that even children with gun safety training are likely to play with guns they find

* Often guns discovered in schools come from the child's home taken without the knowledge of the parent

* A gun is used in most youth suicides

As part of a national effort NCGV distributes free gun locks to gun owners across the state. You can also pick up a free gun lock at many County Sheriff's Offices or Health Departments. To find a distributer near you visit Project ChildSafe
